‘West Wing’ Reunion Goes Wrong in ‘The Grinder’ Cold Open (Exclusive Video)

Show-within-a-show features Rob Lowe sharing a scene with Richard Schiff

Sam Seaborn and Toby Ziegler are back together, but it’s going down all wrong, in the new cold open from Fox’s “The Grinder.”

In the latest scene from the comedy’s show-within-a-show (above), Rob Lowe‘s Mitch Grinder is seen held at gunpoint on a beach by a foe played by Lowe’s former “West Wing” co-star Richard Schiff.

Offscreen, Lowe as Mitch Grinder actor Dean Sanderson watches his own show, enraptured but alone, while Fred Savage‘s character Stewart once again seems less than impressed by his brother’s acting.

Ultimately, the brothers clearly miss each other and each decides to text the other, but a misunderstanding of modern technology prevents them from connecting.

“The Grinder” airs Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
