Emily Carey has been cast as the young Anastasia in the upcoming live-action family comedy, “Anastasia: Once Upon a Time.” Carey will play the role of the young Anastasia.

Set in 1917, “Anastasia” is a re-telling of the classic story in which Anastasia Romanov escapes through a portal when her family is being threatened by Lenin and finds herself in the year 1988 befriended by a young American girl. Although rumors of the real Anastasia’s escape endured for years, in reality she is believed to have perished with her family at the hands of the Bolsheviks in 1918 shortly after the Russian Revolution.

“Anastasia” is being produced by Armando Guttierrez, Eli Lipnik, Peter Lees and Bret Jones. Blake Harris will direct from his screenplay. The original concept was by Guttierrez and Harris.

Carey is currently starring as the young Diana in “Wonder Woman.”

“I am so thrilled to be cast as Anastasia. The team is incredible and it is such a beautiful script,” Carey said. “It is a meaningful and completely unique take on the story of Anastasia. I cannot wait to share it with the world.”

She is repped by Mary Fitzgerald of Curtis Brown Group in London.
