Zoe Saldana to Play Black-Ops Assassin in ‘Hummingbird’

Black List project is shopping for distribution deal in Berlin

Zoe Saldana is suiting up to play an assassin in a film from the 2017 Black List.

John McClain’s screenplay “Hummingbird” has been fully financed by Fundamental Films and Broken Road Productions, with Saldana now set as the lead.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star will play a black-ops assassin whose latest assignment reveals the truth about her past. The film is said to be in the vein of Scarlett Johansson’s 2014 hit “Lucy,” directed by Luc Besson.

The “Hummingbird” project is currently selling domestic and international distribution rights at the Berlin Film Festival.

Fundamental’s Mark Gao and Gregory Ouanhon are producing with Broken Road’s Todd Garner. Fundamental’s Gary Glushon will executive produce with Broken Road’s Jeremy Stein.

Saldana will executive produce through her company, Cinestar Pictures, which she co-founded with her sisters Cisely and Mariel. Saldana is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Barnes, Morris, Klein and Yorn and BWR’s Gary Mantoosh.

Saldana is currently in production on Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”
