3ality Digital has acquired Element Technica, the company announced on Thursday. The newly merged companies will henceforth become known as 3ality Technica, and will serve as "the world’s largest provider of end to end stereoscopic 3D solutions," according to the company's release.
Under the new banner, the company will develop new 3D rigs that combine 3ality's stereo image-processing software with Element's expertise on the design and manufacturing front. The new outfit will celebrate the merger with a unified presence at the IBC 2011 broadcast-industrry conference, which occurs next month.
The deal, which was enabled in part through the Clearwater Capital Group investment firm, also brings Element Technica founders Hector Ortega and Stephen Pizzo aboard 3ality Technica's leadership team.
Declaring that 3ality "has always had great respect for Element Technica and their achievements," 3ality Digital CEO Steve Schklair said the merger will result in "an industry powerhouse with unparalleled capabilities."
3ality's technology has been employed in "The Amazing Spiider-Man," and is currently being put to use on the set of Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."
