Nicki Minaj is executive producing a new series for ABC Family, the network announced Tuesday.

The comedy is based on her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the 1990s and her childhood in Queens, New York. It will begin shooting this winter.

Kate Angelo (“Sex Tape,” “Will and Grace,” “Bernie Mac“) wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Minaj. Aaron Kaplan (“Life in Pieces,” “Divorce”), Stella Bulochnikov and Brian Sher (“Boss”) and Gee Roberson will also serve as executive producers.

Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said Karey Burke, ABC Family’s EVP of programming and development. “We’re beyond thrilled to bring her one-of-a-kind story to our channel. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
