ABC Orders Single-Camera Comedy Pilots From Ellen DeGeneres, Aaron Kaplan

Network orders “Charlie Foxtrot” and “Splitting Up Together”

ABC has given pilot orders to the single camera comedies “Charlie Foxtrot” and “Splitting Up Together,” TheWrap has learned.

“Charlie Foxtrot” follows Captain Charlie Taylor, a cautious, lovable dentist stationed at Fort Bragg who promises to look after his brother’s impulsive fiancée and her two misfit teens while his brother is deployed in Iraq.

The single-camera comedy hails from ABC Studios and will be written and executive produced by Sam Sklaver. Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor will also serve as executive producers on the project for Kapital Entertainment.

“Splitting Up Together” is based upon a Danish series created by Mette Heeno, and tells the story of a couple whose marriage is reignited by their divorce. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

“Suburgatory” creator Emily Kapnek will write and executive produce the comedy through her Piece of Pie Productions banner. Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman will also serve as executive producers for A Very Good Production alongisde Heeno, Mie Andreasen and Hella Joof of the original Danish production.

The network has previously given pilot orders to the comedies “Libby & Malcolm,” which stars Felicity Huffman and Courtney B. Vance, “Start Up” from star/director/executive producer Zach Braff, an untitled project about a rapper-turned-mayor from Daveed Diggs of “Hamilton” and “Raised by Wolves,” from “One Mississippi” and “United States of Tara” creator Diablo Cody.
