ABC’s ‘GMA’ Gets Only Broadcast Interview With LeBron James

“Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts will interview him tonight after his ESPN special, but the interview will be taped to air Friday orning

LeBron James will do his first and only broadcast television interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" co-anchor Robin Roberts Thursday night, following his appearance on the 9 p.m. ESPN special where he will officially announce who is is playing for next season. But the interview will not air until Friday morning on "GMA."

ABC News made the announcement of the interview with Roberts, but did not offer any details on how the interview came about. But an ABC News spokesperson later told TheWrap, "Robin Roberts has been working on booking LeBron James throughout his free agency."

Maverick Carter, the head of James' marketing company, last week approached ESPN about doing the special and negotiated the parameters for doing it, including that Jim Gray be the first person to interview James on the show.

But the ABC News spokesperson told TheWrap "there are no restrictions" or conditions involved with Roberts' interview with James.

Thursday night's special on ESPN could be anticlimactic anyway, since both ESPN and Newsday reported early Thursday that James had decided to play for the Miami Heat.
