Abigail Spencer Joins ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in Recasting, Replacing Bridget Regan

“Timeless” star will have multi-episode arc on ABC nighttime soap

“Timeless” star and “Rectify” alum Abigail Spencer will join “Grey’s Anatomy,” replacing Bridget Regan as Megan Hunt in a recasting ahead of Season 14, an ABC spokesperson told TheWrap.

The actress will star in a multi-episode arc on the ABC-Shondaland drama, stepping in for Regan as Owen’s sister following a scheduling conflict. Regan currently stars on the TNT drama “The Last Ship” alongside “Grey’s” alum Eric Dane.

The character, Owen’s sister and an army medic, had previously been presumed to be dead in a helicopter crash, but was revealed to be alive in last season’s finale. Regan did not appear in the finale, but guest starred in a series of flashbacks in an earlier episode the same season.

Spencer’s casting follows news that Kim Raver will return to “Grey’s” for her own multi-episode arc this season. She reprises the role of cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Teddy Altman, the character she played in Seasons 6 through 8 of the ABC medical drama.

Teddy was last seen in the Season 8 finale, when Owen (Kevin McKidd) fired her as a way of encouraging her to accept a position at a military hospital.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 28.
