Kenneth Lonergan’s Oscar-winning “Manchester By the Sea” may be a downer, but this news should get people happy.

Amazon, which distributed “Manchester By the Sea,” is giving every household in the city Manchester, MA a free year of Amazon Prime as well as gift cards for Wickedly Prime Popcorn as a way of celebrating the film’s success.

For the record, the 2010 census says that Manchester, MA has a population of 5,136. That’s a lot of free popcorn.

Amazon is sending a specially curated package to each home, with a picture from the movie and two gift cards along with the message “Congratulations Manchester” as a way of saying thanks to the city that made the film — which won Casey Affleck his first Oscar — possible.

“Manchester By the Sea,” which starred Affleck, Michelle Williams, Kyle Chandler and Lucas Hedges, was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture, and won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Lonergan and Best Actor for Affleck.

In the film, Affleck starred as a morose janitor who moves back to Manchester after he learns his brother has passed away to act as the guardian and foster parent for his teenage nephew.

The film will be available on Amazon Prime Video beginning May 5.
