FX has renewed “American Crime Story” for a third season, TheWrap has learned.
Titled “Versace/Cunanan,” the third outing of the Ryan Murphy anthology series will tackle the 1997 murder of designer Gianni Versace.
“American Crime Story” recently won critical acclaim and a slew of Emmys for its first outing, “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” and had previously been picked up for a second season, titled “Katrina.”

The first two episodes of the 10-episode season will be written by Tom Rob Smith, with story based on the book “Vulgar Favors” by Maureen Orth. Murphy, who directed multiple episodes of “People v. O.J.,” will direct the first episode of both “Versace/Cunanan” and “Katrina.”
Smith will also serve as executive producer on”American Crime Story’s” third season, alongside Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Brad Falchuk.

Casting is currently underway for “Versace/Cunanan,” but there’s no word yet on whether any of Season 1’s stars — including Sarah Paulson, John Travolta, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and David Schwimmer — will return for future outings.
“People v. O.J.” swept the limited series categories at the Emmys last month, taking home nine statues, including acting awards for stars Courtney B. Vance, Sterling K. Brown and Sarah Paulson as well as Outstanding Limited Series.
