Amy Schumer slimmed down for her hit movie “Trainwreck” because, well, she was sort of shamed into it.
“The only change was that it was explained to me before I did that movie [‘Trainwreck’] that if you weigh over 140 pounds as a woman in Hollywood, if you’re on the screen it will hurt people’s eyes,” the 35-year-old said during an appearance on “The Jonathan Ross Show,” which will air Saturday.
Schumer said she obliged and lost weight for the role in which she played Amy, a polygamous, heavy-drinking New Yorker who finds herself falling for a sports doctor.
“I didn’t know that, so I lost some weight to do that, but never again,” she added.
While accepting Glamour magazine’s Trailblazer of the Year award in 2015, Schumer famously told audiences,”I’m like 160 pounds right now, and I can catch a d— whenever I want, and that’s the truth.”
Schumer has been very vocal about body image in the past. Last October, the actress opened up on the “Today” show about body image issues, revealing “It’s been a struggle for me my whole life, and especially just being in the entertainment industry. Standing on a stage in front of people, I can’t perform my best or be confident if I’m not sure — if I’m pulling at something [I’m wearing]. And sometimes, I would just want to throw in the towel and be like, ‘I’m not gonna go do stand-up tonight.’”
In April, Schumer called out Glamour magazine for featuring her in its “Chic at Any Size” special issue.
“Plus size is considered size 16 in America,” Schumer wrote on Instagram. “I go between a size 6 and an 8.”
But in May, she posted an Instagram of herself in a bathing suit to bait and then berate internet trolls.
“I meant to write ‘good morning trolls!’” she wrote. “I hope you find some joy in your lives today in a human interaction and not just in writing unkind things to a stranger you’ve never met who triggers something in you that makes you feel powerless and alone. This is how I look. I feel happy. I think I look strong and healthy and also like miss trunchbull from Matilda.”
