Anderson Silva Recovering After Gruesome Injury in UFC Title Fight (Video)

Mixed martial arts fighter badly breaks leg before MGM Grand crowd and millions watching on pay-per-view

Mixed martial arts fighter Anderson Silva underwent successful surgery Sunday morning, after gruesomely breaking his leg in an Ultimate Fighting Championship title bout against Chris Wiedman Saturday night.

Fans at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and millions watching on pay-per-view were aghast when Silva threw a kick that was checked by Wiedman. Silva’s left leg was badly broken and dangled grotesquely and he collapsed to the canvas, yelling out in pain as the waved the fight off.

The UFC issued a statement Sunday that that said orthopedic surgeon Dr. Steven Sanders had repaired Silva’s broken left tibia as well as stabilized his broken left fibula and that he “is deeply touched by the outpouring of support from his fans and the entire MMA community.”
