Anna Faris Fakes a Marriage With Eugenio Derbez in First ‘Overboard’ Remake Trailer (Video)

Movie hits theaters April 20, 2018

The first trailer for the “Overboard” remake, starring Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez, dropped Thursday, showing the two in reversed roles made famous by Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell in Garry Marshall’s original.

This new imagining will see Faris play a version of Russell’s character in the 1987 film. Russell, Hawn’s real-life partner, played a lowbrow handyman who convinced Hawn’s wealthy, amnesiac heiress that he was her husband.

In the trailer, we see Faris as a carpet cleaner who goes on a yacht for a job. The owner of the boat doesn’t take lightly that she refuses an order, and fires her on the spot while throwing her machine overboard. When an accident prompts Derbez’s character to fall overboard, he suffers from amnesia — and Faris’ character seizes her moment to seek revenge.

Eva Longoria, John Hannah and Josh Segarra also star in the film, which is written and directed by Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg. The original was considered a mild box office success, and received mixed reviews from critics.

The film industry hasn’t been kind to actresses looking to take on Hawn’s old parts. Even Jennifer Lopez couldn’t get a remake to sail, but MGM announced the remake officially with Faris and Derbez in March.

“Overboard” is set to debut in theaters on April 20, 2018.
