‘Annabelle: Creation’ Trailer Tells Doll’s Origin Story (Video)

David F. Sandberg helms follow-up to 2014 horror film

The first trailer for “Annabelle: Creation” teases the creepy doll’s origin story, setting up the prequel to the 2014 box-office smash.

David F. Sandberg directs the New Line film starring Miranda Otto, Javier Botet and Stephanie Sigman, which will pick up a few years after the tragic death of a little girl. Her parents, a dollmaker and his wife, welcome a nun and several girls from an orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s prized possession, Annabelle.

Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Samara Lee and Tayler Buck also star. Peter Safran and James Wan produce, with Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter and Hans Ritter serving as executive producers.

“Annabelle,” directed by John R. Leonetti and was released in 2014. It opened to $37 million in October and went on to earn $84 million domestically and $256.9 million worldwide.

“Annabelle: Creation” will be released on Aug. 11.
