AOL-Huffington Post Deal Complete; Six New Hires Announced

Acquisition closed Friday, AOL says in SEC filing; Yahoo’s Calderone poached

AOL's $315 million acquision of the Huffington Post is complete, AOL announced in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday.

Meanwhile, the company announced six new hires, including one from The Daily, News Corp.'s recently launched iPad publication.

The new staffers include: Yahoo’s Michael Calderone, who was named senior media reporter; the New York Times’ Trymaine Lee as senior reporter; the New York Daily News’ Michael McAuliff as senior congressional reporter; and The Daily’s Jon Ward as senior political reporter. Bonnie Kavoussi was hired as a business reporter and Lucas Kavner as an entertainment reporter.

The announcement comes exactly a month after AOL CEO Tim Armstrong and Arianna Huffington announced that they had worked out a deal at the Super Bowl.

As previously announced, the new group will have a combined base of 117 million unique visitors a month in the United States and 270 million around the world.
