Apple claims Gizmodo’s iPhone story was “immensely damaging” and will put a “huge” dent into the company’s earnings.
According to court documents related to the investigation into the case of the lost next-gen iPhone, lawyers for Apple told San Mateo, California police that “by publishing details about the phone and its features … people that would have otherwise purchased a currently existing Apple product would wait for the next item to be released, thereby hurting overall sales and negatively [a]ffecting Apple’s earnings.”
Huge? Um, I’m not even an Apple fanboy and even I knew there was a next-gen iPhone in the works.
Kevin Hunt, analysts and Hapoalim Securities (via CNNMoney.com) couldn’t have put it any better:
"It’s a bunch of legalese and B.S. from lawyers. Everyone knew a new iPhone was coming."
Exactly.
Besides, if the company was truly concerned, why didn’t Apple alert its shareholders during its investor call on April 20, the day after Gizmodo posted its "leak" story?
