Arnold Schwarzenegger Joins Michael Fassbender in ‘Kung Fury’

David Hasselhoff also stars in David Sandberg’s action comedy

Arnold Schwarzenegger is joining Michael Fassbender and David Hasselhoff in the action comedy “Kung Fury,” Bloom announced on Thursday.

David Sandberg will direct and produce the film, in which he also stars. He will produce under his Laser Unicorns’ banner, alongside Fassbender. David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt will produce under their KatzSmith Productions banner, while Philip Westgren of B-Reel Films and Conor McCaughan will also produce. Pelle Strandberg is executive producing on behalf of Laser Unicorns.

The film comes after the 2015 action comedy short of the same name. The half-hour short, funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised $630,000, has since been seen by over 29 million people. It debuted at the Directors’ Fortnight during the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and is now on Netflix as well as YouTube.

In it, Miami’s best cop, “Kung Fury,” travels through time and teams up with Vikings and dinosaurs — and Hasselhoff — to defeat Adolf Hitler (“the worst criminal of all time”). The short was also directed by Sandberg and starred him in the titular role.

The description for the feature-length film is as follows: Set in 1985, the best year ever. Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time. His Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of one of their members causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all.

Endeavor Content and CAA will handle the North American sales of the film. Bloom is handling international sales and introduced the film to buyers in Berlin.

Schwarzenegger will next star in “Viy 2: Journey to China,” which he also executive produced. He will also star in the upcoming “Terminator” reboot.

He is represented by CAA.
