‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Teases Thanos’ Wrath in New Teaser (Video)

The final countdown to “Infinity War” has begun

“Black Panther” is just two weeks away, but Marvel Studios is getting fans ready for the big film coming out this May, “Avengers: Infinity War,” with a new TV spot that aired during Super Bowl LII.

The 30-second spot was chock full of new shots, including: Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) hanging out together; Spider-Man taking his own mask off while hanging off the side of one of Thanos’s death machines; Captain America trying out a brand new Wakandan shield; our first look at “Guardians of the Galaxy” character Nebula in this teamup; and Iron Man fighting alongside Doctor Strange in New York.

Cap’s new shield (or shields, actually, since he sports one on each arm) is particularly interesting. As you may recall, Cap gave up his old iconic vibranium shield at the end of “Captain America: Civil War” after a beaten down Iron Man screamed that Cap didn’t deserve to have it (Tony Stark’s father had made the shield back in the day).

The best line from the previous “Infinity War” trailer came from T’Challa (aka Black Panther): “Get this man a shield.” So as the Avengers fight against Thanos’s legions in the fields of Wakanda Cap will have a pair of collapsable vibranium shields instead of  the single shield he’s fought with in the previous five movies he’s starred in.

“Avengers: Infinity War” marks the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe teamup yet, with every hero character from the entire shared universe showing up to fight an apocalyptic battle against the Mad Titan Thanos, who’s rounding up all the infinity stones so he can wield unlimited power to control the universe.

Anthony and Joe Russo direct the film, which is produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are the executive producers. Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay.

“Marvel’s The Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” have grossed a combined $1.08 billion at the domestic box office.

“Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters May 4, 2018.
