Bella Thorne, Kian Lawley Talk ‘Shovel Buddies’ at SXSW (Video)

The actors stop by TheWrap’s interview studio to discuss Lawley’s transition from YouTube Star to film actor, and the duo’s upcoming projects

Bella Thorne and Kian Lawley stopped by TheWrap’s SXSW Interview studio to talk about their new movie, “Shovel Buddies,” as well as their other upcoming projects.

Lawley, a YouTube star who started dipping his toes into feature films with 2015’s “The Chosen,” told TheWrap that he wants to continue on both mediums.

“I’m trying to merge, I’m not trying to transition,” he said. “I don’t plan to ditch to YouTube, I plan to do both, but it’s getting a lot more comfortable for me to dive into a new character.”

Thorne stars with Lawley in “Shovel Buddies,” a film that follows four kids who go on a journey to fulfill their dead friends’ last wish — to be buried in his football jersey — but complications soon arise.

Thorne has a variety of different projects lined up, including Awesomeness Films’ next feature, “You Get Me,” co-starring Halston Sage and directed by “The Jinx” helmer Brent Bonacorso.

“I’m super thrilled,” she said. “He had such an interesting take on my character– I play like a real psychopath, like a REAL psychopath, like ‘that bitch is CRAZY!’”

Starring in “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan” alongside Jessica Chastain and Kit Harington, and in “The Babysitter,” Thorne will also reunite with Lawley in “Boo! A Madea Halloween,” set for a Oct. 21 release.
