Ben Stiller’s “Escape From Clinton Correctional” is nearing a series order at Showtime, TheWrap has learned.
Benicio del Toro and Patricia Arquette will star in the eight-part limited series based on the prison break in upstate New York in the summer of 2015. The high-profile escape spawned a massive manhunt for two convicted murderers who were aided by a married female prison employee with whom they both became sexually entangled.
Del Toro will play convicted murderer Richard Matt. Arquette will play Tilly Mitchell, who supervises the prison tailor shop. Stiller will serve as executive producer and will direct all eight episodes.
The drama will be written and executive produced by Brett Johnson and Michael Tolkin, both writing alums of Showtime’s Emmy-nominated “Ray Donovan.”
The series will be produced by Showtime, with Bryan Zuriff and Michael De Luca executive producing via Michael De Luca Productions alongside Nicky Weinstock for Red Hour Productions.
