‘Big Little Lies’ Trailer: The Lie – and Meryl Streep – Comes Back to Haunt the Monterey Five (Video)

HBO drama returns June 9

Meryl Streep has landed in Monterey and she wants answers.

The new trailer for the hotly anticipated second season of HBO’s “Big Little Lies” gives a glimpse at her character’s trying to learn the truth, showing Streep bluntly interrogating her on-screen daughter-in-law Nicole Kidman about the untimely death of her son with a steely calm and a deeply accusatory sigh.

We also see the Monterey Five attempting to return to their normal lives consumed by petty parental drama, while simultaneously harboring a dark secret.

“Big Little Lies” was intended as a miniseries and not return for a second season, but it proved to be such a big hit that HBO just couldn’t let it go. The second season, set to premiere on June 9, will be based on a continuation of the source novel by author Liane Moriarty.

Nearly all of the original cast will return for Season 2, including executive producers Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, as well as Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Kravitz, Adam Scott, James Tupper, Jeffrey Nordling, Iain Armitage, Kathryn Newton, Robin Weigert, Sarah Sokolovic and Merrin Dungey.

David E. Kelley returns as showrunner and executive producer, with Andrea Arnold taking over as director for all seven episodes.
