The comedian stages a surprise audition for the role on Friday’s “Late Night With David Letterman”

“The Monuments Men” star Bill Murray believes that he’s the one to play Peter Pan in NBC’s next televised stage musical.

On Friday’s episode of “Late Show With David Letterman,” the original “Saturday Night Live” player flew above the talk show host and sang “I’m Flying.”

“My roots are in the musical comedy stage,” Murray told David Letterman. “And I feel that this is my moment. They’re talking about restaging ‘Peter Pan’ and I think I’m the guy.”

It’s true. NBC did announce that it will follow up “Sound of Music” with the musical about a boy who doesn’t want to grow up. It also said that it would go against tradition and cast a male in the title role rather than a woman. And, it has dismissed suggestions that Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber would be good fits for the role.
