‘Black Panther’ Reaction Video: Why Marvel’s Latest Is Different Than All Previous Films (Video)

TheWrap’s resident fanboy Umberto Gonzalez and film reporter Beatrice Verhoeven have seen “Black Panther” — here are their takes

“Black Panther” is different than any other Marvel movie that has come before it — TheWrap’s Umberto Gonzalez and Beatrice Verhoeven are here to tell you why.

The new superhero film is more emotional, cultural and spiritual than any previous film, and is more focused on finding one’s identity than trying to save the world from aliens. It took more of the “Logan” route — but both Gonzalez and Verhoeven agree that this film elevates even the last iteration of the “Wolverine” films.

With beautiful cinematography and stunning costume design, “Black Panther” lives up to our expectations. And another thing the film does well: Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger is a fully fleshed-out villain for whom you also feel compassion at times.

And those post-credit scenes (don’t worry, no spoilers here).

The film stars Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Andy Serkis, Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett and Forest Whitaker. Ryan Coogler directed.

“Black Panther” will hit theaters on Feb. 16.
