“Bladerunner” scribe Hampton Fancher is in talks to reunite with the film’s director, Ridley Scott, for a sequel to the 1982 cult classic.
Alcon Entertainment, which is producing the film with Scott Free Productions, Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, would not say much about the plot, only that “the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded.”
Scott was already planning to direct a follow-up to the science-fiction thriller, and now Fancher will try to pitch the best idea. Along with David Peoples, he co-wrote the original film, which was based on Philip K. Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”
According to a statement released on Thursday, Fancher and Scott had planned the initial film as a trilogy, much like the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” franchises.
Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, co-founders and co-CEOs of Alcon, had this to say about the project: “It is a perfect opportunity to reunite Ridley with Hampton on this new project, one in fact inspired by their own personal collaboration, a classic of cinema if there ever was one.”
