Bob Costas Eyes Monday Return as NBC’s Olympics Host

Veteran broadcaster has been off the air from Sochi for a week with an infection

NBC’s Bob Costas will make his return as host of the network’s Winter Olympics coverage on Monday after being off the air for a week with an eye infection, the network told TheWrap Sunday.

“Today” host Matt Lauer will fill in for Costas one last time on the Sunday night broadcast, and Costas is preparing for his return on the prime time and late night telecasts Monday, NBC said.

The longtime Olympics host started duty in Sochi with one eye reddened from an infection that subsequently spread to his other eye. It made his vision blurry and it was difficult for him to work, and his red eyes became a hot topic on social media.

Lauer and Meredith Vieira have filled in for him since.
