Ricky Gervais has answered Caitlyn Jenner’s response to his Golden Globes jokes with more jabs at her driving record.
On Thursday at a TCA press panel, the “I Am Cait” star was asked if she had heard Gervais’ joke about her during Sunday’s Golden Globes. “I think what I’m gonna do is call the Golden Globes and see if they need a new host for next year and we’ll solve that problem,” she responded.
Gervais tweeted early Friday morning, “Please, please, please let her host the Golden Globes. Just don’t let her drive.”
He also retweeted an article about Jenner breaking her silence on Gervais. He captioned the article, “At last. She always brakes too late.”
Gervais joked on Sunday:
“What a year [Caitlyn Jenner’s] had! She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn’t do a lot for women drivers.”
The joke, one of his harshest of the night, referred to a fatal car crash in 2015.
Gervais refused to apologize or back down from his jokes, saying on Twitter, “Suggesting a joke about Caitlin [sic] Jenner is automatically transphobic is like suggesting a joke about Bill Cosby is automatically racist.”
Please, please, please let her host The @goldenglobes. Just don’t let her drive.
