CBS is looking to join the vocal-competition fray.

The network is developing a singing series with Scooter Braun, the music manager who represents such stars as Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Ariana Grande and Carly Rae Jepsen. Braun is also an executive producer of CBS’ “Scorpion.”

It is not currently clear whether Braun would be in front of the camera or hold a behind-the-scenes role.

There is already plenty of competition in the format, including NBC’s “The Voice,” ABC’s rebooted “American Idol” and Fox’s new project “The Four.”

CBS Corporation chairman and CEO Leslie Moonves told reporters in May that CBS had a chance to pick up “Idol” before ABC but that the network balked, in part because of the high cost inherent with making the series.

“For a couple reasons, we didn’t like it,” Moonves said of “Idol.”
