Host Chris Hardwick took time out of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” aftershow “Talking Dead” to discuss the mass shooting that took place Sunday in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

During one portion of the show, Hardwick addressed the shooting and offered support to the victims, as well as the people of Texas.

“On a very somber note, I just want to say that we are so deeply saddened by the horrific event that took place earlier today in Sutherland Springs, Texas,” Hardwick said. “It’s not okay. I can’t believe we live in a world where this keeps happening. And it’s heartbreaking.”

Initial reports of the shooting said that a man opened fire in the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs. The gunman killed 26 people, and another 20 people were injured in the attack.

“I know that just saying that we’re sending love and support — I know that’s not really a practical way to try and help, but just know that we stand beside you, Texas. We love you, and you are very much in our hearts and in our thoughts right now,” Hardwick said.

Texas authorities confirmed that the suspect, 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley, was also killed in the incident. According to CBS News, authorities said he was seen at a local gas station, dressed in all black and tactical gear, including a “ballistic vest.” “He then exited his vehicle, crossed the street and began firing an AR-15 style weapon at the church,” the report said. “The suspect entered the church and continued to fire.”

“Talking Dead” doesn’t usually take on current events on the show. Instead, Hardwick interviews cast and crew about the week’s episode of “The Walking Dead,” usually discussing events in the show and behind-the-scenes perspectives of what happened. This week’s guests were cast members Norman Reedus (Daryl), Ross Marquand (Aaron), Jordan Woods-Robinson (Eric) and Juan Gabriel Pareja (Morales).
