‘Cloud Atlas’ Trailer: Travelling Through Time With Tom Hanks, Halle Berry

Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski brothers tease their latest project

Directors Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski brothers have released the first trailer for “Cloud Atlas,” an upcoming film based on David Mitchell’s 2004 novel.

The teaser is more than six minutes long, showcasing cast members like Tom Hanks and Halley Berry in assorted settings.

The book told six different stories, jumping time between the South Pacific of the 19th century, Belgium in the 1930s, California in the 1970s, England in the present day, a dystopian near future and a post-apocalyptic distant future.

Mitchell's third book won its share of awards and was on the short list for the Man Booker Prize.

The directing team, whose combined credits include “The Matrix” trilogy (the Wachowskis) and “Run Lola Run” (Tykwer), also adapted "Cloud Atlas" for the big screen.

The cast also includes Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Jim Surgess, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon and many more.

Not much can be said about what the extended teaser teases, beyond a series of interconnected stories from different periods of time — like the book.

Magical, eerie and contemplative all at once, here’s a look at “Cloud Atlas”:
