Coldplay Announces New Album ‘Ghost Stories,’ Releases Second Single (Audio)

First album since 2011’s “Mylo Xyloto” out May 19

Coldplay announced Monday its new album, “Ghost Stories,” will hit stores May 19, and along with it the band released its second new song in less than one week.

Latest single “Magic” continues the trend of 2011 album “Mylo Xyloto,” eschewing the pounding stadium beats of “X&Y” (2005) and “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” (2008) that made Coldplay global rockstars.

The release of “Magic” comes less than a week after the band posted a surprise music video for “Midnight” last Tuesday. Check out that trippy video, directed by Mary Wigmore, above.

The two songs are the first new music audiences have heard from Coldplay since “Atlas,” which the band composed for the “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” soundtrack. The band is set to perform at the iTunes Festival at SXSW in Austin March 11.
