Holmes told jailhouse workers he does not know why he is in jail, the paper said.

"He asked why I am I here," one of the workers is quoted by the paper.

The 24-year old has been charged with killing a dozen people and wounding 58 more at the Century 16 theater in Aurora during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.”

He remains the only suspect after the police found him in the parking lot behind the theater with guns in his car. He was also outfitted in assorted protective attire such as a gas mask and ballistic leggings.

Reports indicate Holmes sent a notebook filled with violent sketches to a professor at the University of Colorado, where he was a Ph.D. candidate in neuroscience.

The suspected mass murderer is being held at the Arapahoe Country Detention Center, where he has also reportedly been complaining about the food.
