‘Curb,’ ‘Good Wife’ Vets Join NYTVF Indie Pilots Competition

More than 50 pilots competing for development deals

Fifty-one independly produced TV pilots will compete in this year's New York Television Festival independent pilots competition, the most in the eight years of the festival.

The pilots will compete for awards from IFC, MTV, Syfy, and VH1 that include guaranteed development deals, and will gain exposure that could lead to other development deals, said NYTVF Founder Terence Gray.

Despite their lack of affiliation with studios, some of the pilots boast big names. "Lovin' Lakin," from "Step by Step" child actor Christine Lakin and Dave Mahanes, finds Lakin running into the likes of Seth MacFarlane, Kristin Chenoweth, Kristen Bell, Ross Patterson, and Jamie Lee Curtis as she tries to reclaim fame. (Unsurprisingly, many of the pilots in the competition involve people trying to acquire or recapture fame.)

Chemoweth's fellow "Good Wife" actor Carrie Preston created "The Dody Show," about a "strong, sexy, trashy chick" who, with her brother, has to deal with the fallout when a porn video of her husband and best friend goes viral.

Speaking of: "American Viral," from Shandor Garrison, AnnaRose King, and Jennifer Suhr, follows a father ("Stella" star Michael Showalter) trying to recapture America's heart by kidnapping his own child, the star of a hit online video.

"Your Dad's Friends," meanwhile, guest stars "Curb Your Enthusiasm" actor Richard Kind in the story of a man trying to use his dentist dad's connections to make it in the entertainment industry.

Here are descriptions of all 51 selections, courtesy of the festival:
