The CW is ramping up its plans for a series based on superhero The Flash in a hurry.
The network has decided to give its project “The Flash” its own standalone pilot, rather than giving it a backdoor pilot on the CW’s superhero hit “Arrow,” as originally planned.

The character was previously expected to be introduced on episodes 208 and 209 of “Arrow,” with another appearance in episode 220 to serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential series.
However, now “The Flash” will receive its own pilot, instead of a backdoor pilot.

“Glee” actor Grant Gustin is playing The Flash, aka Barry Allen, who boasts superhuman speed as his power.
The standalone pilot was decided upon after episodes 208 and 209 — which have yet to air — created a vote of confidence for the Barry Allen character.

A decision is still pending as to what will air in episode 220 of “Arrow.”
Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter are executive producing the project, with Berlanti and Kreisberg writing along with Geoff Johns (“Arrow,” “Smallville”). Melissa Kellner Berman will co-executive produce the project.
