‘Daily Show’: John Oliver Praises ‘Cannabis News Network’ on Sanjay Gupta’s Pot Switch

Gupta is a little late, Oliver says

"Daily Show" host John Oliver praised CNN's chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, on his reversal on medicinal marijuana.

Gupta said last week he is no longer opposed to using marijuana for medical reasons, and that he had been "terribly and systematically misled" about the possible benefits of the drug. He also said he shouldn't have trusted Drug Enforcement Administration studies.

On that, he's a little late, Oliver said.

"You do know that you won't actually go blind from jacking it, right?" said Oliver. "I just found that out two weeks ago and it's turned my life around."

Oliver then played a report by CNN — which he dubbed the "Cannabis News Network" — about how marijuana may help patients with pain, nausea, Parkinson's disease, and dementia.

But he suggested some strains could use a re-branding.

"If you want this drug with serious medical benefits to be taken seriously, how about adulting up the names a little bit?" Oliver said. "That way a sick old man doesn't have to ask for a quarter ounce of Rainbow Diesel Funkadelic Cheddar Harmony."
