A team of “Fresh off the Boat” alums has a new comedy in development at Freeform.
Titled “Asian Descent,” the comedy follows an aspiring musician who sets aside her dreams and pride by moving back home with her immigrant parents and leans on her high school friends to figure out the next chapter of her life.
“Fresh off the Boat” writer Cindy Fang will write and serve as co-producer. Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan will serve as executive producers.
“Fresh off the Boat” wrapped its six-season run on ABC last month.
The new project joins a growing development slate at Freeform, which also includes the country-music drama “East Nasty,” a modern-day adaptation of Dante’s “Inferno” and the Chainsmokers-produced musical drama “Demo.” Freeform also recently gave a series order to the ’90s-set thriller “Last Summer” from executive producer Jessica Biel.
