Soap opera star Freddie Smith, who plays Sonny Kiriakis on the NBC soap “Days of Our Lives,” has been sentenced to two years probation following a car crash in Ashtabula County, Ohio, in October, the Ashtabula County prosecutor’s office told TheWrap on Friday.

Smith, who pleaded guilty to the fourth degree felony of vehicular assault and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence, has also had his license suspended for a year.

The actor crashed his car after losing control while navigating a curve last October. Smith had a blood-alcohol level of .093. Ohio’s legal limit is .08.

In addition to the probation and license suspension, Smith must pay $1,350 in fines plus court costs, and speak at each high school in the county — approximately nine schools — about the effects of drinking and driving, the prosecutor’s office said.

Smith sustained minor injuries in the crash, while his girlfriend, actress Alyssa Tabit, was reportedly left in critical condition.
