‘General Hospital’ Leads Daytime Emmy Nominations With 23

Show evades cancellation, earns accolades as its network, ABC, scores 56 nominations

ABC's enduring "General Hospital" leads all shows in the Daytime Emmy Awards nominations announced Wednesday, while ABC leads all networks with 56.

The nominations — the complete list is here — added more validation to ABC's decision last month to continue the 49-year-old soap, the longest running that is still in production. Its fate was uncertain after the network canceled the decades-old "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" last year.

Both "All My Children" and "General Hospital" were nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, along with NBC's "Days of Our Lives" and CBS's "The Young and the Restless."

The winner in the category for the last three years, NBC's "The Bold and The Beautiful," wasn't nominated.

"General Hospital" had been competing for increasingly tight daytime real estate with "The Revolution" and another new lifestyle show, "The Chew." ABC cut "The Revolution" last month.

After ABC, the most nominated networks were PBS (with 51), Nickelodeon, (40), CBS (33), and NBC (24). Syndicated shows received 46 nominations.

The most nominated shows after "General Hospital" were "Sesame Street" (16), "The Young and the Restless" (16), "Days of Our Lives" (15) and "The Ellen Degeneres Show" (12). "The Bold and The Beautiful" landed 11, along with the canceled "One Life to Live" and "All My Children."
