Demi Lovato is set to star in the comedy “Hungry” from writer Suzanne Martin, which is currently in development at NBC and Universal Television.

The single-camera comedy, which has a put pilot commitment from the network, centers on a group of friends who belong to the same food issues group and help one another as they “look for love, success and the perfect thing in the fridge that’s going to make it all better.”

Martin, creator of TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland” and a veteran of NBC’s “Will & Grace” revival, will write the script and executive produce.

With “Hungry,” Martin will reunite with “Will & Grace” star Sean Hayes, who will executive produce alongside Todd Milliner of their Hazy Mills production company. Lovato’s manager Scooter Braun will also executive produce alongside James Shin and Scott Manson of SB Projects.

Should the project move forward to series, it would mark the first starring TV role for Lovato since her days on Disney Channel. She recently did a stint on “Will & Grace” as Jenny, Will’s surrogate in the final season, and has held recurring roles on “Glee” and “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.”
