‘Desperate Housewives’ Alum Brenda Strong Joins CW’s ‘The 100’

Actress will play new Grounder character on Season 3 of post-apocalyptic drama

The CW’s “The 100” has added another Grounder to its growing cast, with “Desperate Housewives” alum Brenda Strong joining in the role of Nia, Queen of the Ice Nation, TheWrap has learned.

The Grounder clan was often referenced but unseen on the post-apocalyptic drama, but it looks like its infamously ruthless leader will finally make her appearance. Nia’s official description also says she does what she must to maintain her power, even when it puts her at odds with those closest to her.

The series is centered on 100 juvenile delinquents who are sent down to a potentially toxic Earth to test its habitability, and stars Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, Marie Averopoulos, Paige Turco, Henry Ian Cusick and Isaiah Washington.

“The 100” is based on the book series by Kass Morgan and produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios.

Jason Rothenberg created the show and is the executive producer. Now filming, Season 3 of “The 100” is slated to air on The CW in midseason 2016.

Strong narrated ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” as Mary Alice Young throughout the long-running series, and also played Ann Ewing on TNT’s “Dallas” reboot. She is represented by SDB Partners and Liberman-Zerman Management.
