‘Dexter’ Renewed for Sixth Season

Episode this season nears ratings of stunning Season 4 finale

Dexter Morgan will be putting a lot more people on his table: "Dexter" has been renewed for a sixth season.

The "Showtime" series about a Miami homicide blood-spatter expert who moonlights as a serial killer managed to stay strong in its fifth season, which wraps Sunday, even after an insanely watchable Season 4. The show had it's second-highest ratings ever on Nov. 28, delivering 2.54 million viewers. It was only slightly behind the stunning Season 4 finale, which netted 2.57 million.‬‪

David Nevins, president of entertainment for Showtime, called the renewal "the easiest decision I've made since I got to Showtime."

“DEXTER is the best suspense drama on television,” said Nevins.  “To grow its audience so significantly in its fifth season is an enormous accomplishment by this amazing cast and crew.”

"Dexter" received seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations this year, including outstanding television drama series, outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Michael C. Hall, and outstanding guest actor in a drama series for John Lithgow, which Lithgow won.
