Discovery Buying Revision3, Company Behind ‘Tekzilla’ and ‘Epic Meal Time’

Revision3 boasts 23 million monthly unique viewers across 27 digital channels

Discovery Communications, parent of the Discovery Channel, is buying digital video provider Revision3, the company behind such online successes as "Tekzilla" and "Epic Meal Time."

The purchase helps Discovery's strategy of being "the number one nonfiction media company on all screens," it said in a release. The San Francisco-based Revision3 boasts more than 23 million monthly unique viewers across 27 digital channels. One of the 10 largest networks on YouTube, it also has more than 40 partners including iTunes, Google, AOL and Yahoo.

Terms were not disclosed. The parties expect the deal to close on or before June 1.

"With Revision3’s industry-leading management team and roster of great talent, we look forward to cultivating more original content and fresh personalities that resonate with passionate communities online and across all platforms, while enhancing our innovative marketing solutions for advertising partners," said JB Perrette, chief digital officer of Discovery Communications.

In another statement, Revision3 CEO Jim Louderback said he "couldn’t imagine a more appropriate company to team up with to develop the future of original web-based video.”
