Disney’s water drama “The Finest Hours” is finally ready to set sail.
“Star Trek” leading man Chris Pine and Oscar-nominee Casey Affleck will star in the fact-based film, which will be directed by Craig Gillespie. The “Million Dollar Arm” and “Lars and the Real Girl” helmer replaces “R.I.P.D.” director Robert Schwentke, who left to direct a “Divergent” sequel.
The 1952-set film focuses on four Coast Guard members that uses a lifeboat in a desperate attempt to rescue 30 sailors who are stranded in freezing water after a horrible storm strikes their oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod.
Based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, it was scripted by Oscar nominees Paul Tamsay & Eric Johnson (“The Fighter”) and fellow “The Fighter” writer Scott Silver, who also worked on “8 Mile.”
Jim Whitaker (“Cinderella Man”) and Dorothy Aufiero are producing the project.
