Dylan McDermott has joined the cast of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix political satire “The Politician,” an individual with knowledge of the casting tells TheWrap.
McDermott also teased his involvement on social media on Thursday, writing that he was “training” for the series in a caption accompanying a video of him sparring with a boxing coach.
The actor, who previously worked with Murphy on the first season of “American Horror Story,” joins a cast that includes “Dear Evan Hansen” lead Ben Platt, “Set It Up” star Zoey Deutch, “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” Lucy Boynton, Laura Dreyfuss and newcomer Rahne Jones.
Details of the show’s plot and character details have not yet been announced, but the series will center on Payton (Platt), a well-off politician in Santa Barbara, California. Platt is expected to showcase his Broadway chops with musical numbers throughout the show.
The actor is fresh off a return to “American Horror Story” for a guest appearance in the crossover episode set to air next week, alongside his on-screen wife Connie Britton and former “Horror Story” mainstay Jessica Lange. He most recently starred in the Fox comedy “LA to Vegas.”
Murphy will serve as showrunner on “The Politician,” writing and executive producing the series with frequent collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.
Netflix and “The Politician” studio 20th Century Fox did not respond to multiple requests for comment from TheWrap.
