Maker Studios, Ben Stiller Partner to Produce ‘Next Time on Lonny’

The show parodies reality TV — much like the Stiller-backed ‘Burning Love.’

Maker Studios and Ben Stiller‘s Red Hour Digital will produce the second season of “Next Time on Lonny,” a web series that parodies reality television, the companies announced on Monday.

That is familiar territory for Red Hour Digital, a subsidiary of Stiller’s Red Hour Films that produced the successful “Bachelor” parody “Burning Love.” That show first streamed on Yahoo before E! picked it up as a regular show.

This time Red Hour is going to YouTube, partnering with Maker Studios, one of the largest networks of YouTube channels. Maker will both produce and distribute the show across its network, selling advertising for it and using its other channels to promote the show.

It has also agreed to distribute the first season, creators Alex Anfanger and Dan Schmipf self-distributed on YouTube and the show’s own website.

“Red Hour has established itself as a powerhouse in the digital space by leveraging what they do best…making fantastic content, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with them,” Andy Vick, vice president of comedy at Maker Studios, said in a statement. “We are huge fans of Alex and Dan and can’t wait to show the world Season 2 of ‘Lonny;’ it’s a natural fit for Maker as the show embraces an over-the-top humor that fans can’t get enough of.”

Anfanger and Schmipfs first season consisted of six episodes that began with a typical reality show scene, transitioned into end credits and then teased major events that never happened.

The new season will debut early next year.

“Dan and Alex are the life blood of a new generation of comedy,” Stiller said in a statement. “Red Hour’s policy is to feed off of that blood in the time honored vampyric tradition of show-business.”
