Emma Stone Is a Ghost Whisperer in First Trailer for Woody Allen’s ‘Magic in the Moonlight’

Charming period piece is due out in July

Emma Stone is Woody Allen‘s latest muse as the filmmaker makes his return to Europe.

The Oscar winner, who jumped back to the United States for last year’s “Blue Jasmine” after a decade of making (mostly) successful films across the Atlantic, also goes back in time for “Magic in the Moonlight.” The first trailer, unveiled on Wednesday, promises a light story set in the 1920s, in which Stone plays a fraudulent medium and mind reader, to the great frustration of Colin Firth, who has traveled from England to the South of France to debunk her powers.

As it turns out, she has great power over at least one spirit: that of Firth himself.

The film, which co-stars Eileen Atkins, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, and Jacki Weaver, hits theaters on July 25.
