Evan Shapiro Out as Head of NBCUniversal’s Seeso Streaming Service

President of Digital Enterprises Maggie Suniewick will run the (possibly changing) show

Seeso’s head honcho Evan Shapiro has parted ways with NBCUniversal, TheWrap has confirmed.

As a result, the streaming comedy platform is being run by his former boss Maggie Suniewick, the president of NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises.

“Evan has created a slate of remarkable comedy programming, and put together an incredibly talented team. We’re proud of the work we’ve done together and wish him all the best,” Suniewick said Wednesday in a statement.

Seeso hasn’t exactly been a smashing success. Though NBCUniversal does not release subscriber numbers, TheWrap is told that the paid-customer total for the still relatively young platform is in the low hundreds of thousands.

Though the present doesn’t look bright for Seeso, the future is still up in the air over there. The platform will continue to roll out new shows as planned, though a person with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap that Suniewick is exploring a lot of options for Seeso. At the very least, the brand will likely seek out more distribution partners to work with.

Before joining the Comcast-owned company, Shapiro was the president of Participant Media’s Pivot TV. Shapiro has also served as the president of IFC TV and Sundance Channel.

Vulture first reported the news of Shapiro’s NBCU exodus, as well as Seeso’s rough subscriber total.
