Fox, the studio releasing Bryan Singer‘s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” has responded to sexual abuse allegations against the director for activity that purportedly took place more than a decade ago.

“These are serious allegations, and they will be resolved in the appropriate forum,” a Fox representative said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. “This is a personal matter, which Bryan Singer and his representatives are addressing separately.”

Michael Egan, now 31, filed suit against Singer Wednesday in Hawaii, accusing the director of drugging, raping, and using his power to exploit a teenage boy.

The studio released the statement shortly after Egan, with lawyer Jeff Herman by his side, conducted a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

“I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse,” he said. “No one at a young age ever deserves to go through the horrific junk that I went through as a kid.”

Egan, who was a model and aspiring actor at the time, claims the alleged abuse began when he was 15. He said he has been undergoing trauma therapy to help him cope with the alleged abuse.

The director’s attorney, Marty Singer, blasted the suit Wednesday evening, calling the charges “completely without merit.”

“We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit,” the attorney told TheWrap at that time. “It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan’ s new movie is about to open in a few weeks.”

The latest “X-Men” opens May 23.
