FX and Hulu have teamed up to secure the rights to Lionsgate’s theatrical output beginning in 2020, TheWrap has learned.
Under the deal, the streamer and the cable network will share the rights to Lionsgate films produced in calendar 2020 and 2021. The agreement succeeds Lionsgate’s previous long-term agreement with Epix. Meanwhile, upcoming films released under the studio’s Summit Entertainment label will continue to be put out through its separate deal with HBO.
The end of both agreements will line up to allow Lionsgate to shift its output to Starz — which the studio acquired in 2016 — down the line.

The new FX-Hulu deal comes a month after Disney struck a $33 million deal with Comcast to take “full operational control” of the streaming service, and less than three months after it took ownership of FX as part of the Disney-Fox merger.
