FX Orders Border Drama ‘The Bridge’ to Series

Diane Kruger, Demián Bichir star

FX has ordered the border-cop drama "The Bridge," starring Diane Kruger and Demián Bichir, to series.

The series, from executive producers Meredith Stiehm and Elwood Rei, follows two detectives, one from each side of the U.S.-Mexican border, trying to solve serial murders. FX has ordered 13 episodes of the show, based on the Scandinavian series "i Bron." It is scheduled to premiere in July and is a co-prodcution of Shine America and FX Productions.

Co-stars on the series include Ted Levine, who played serial killer Buffalo Bill in "Silence of the Lambs," as well as Annabeth Gish, Thomas M. Wright, and Matthew Lillard.

Gerardo Naranjo ("Miss Bala") directed the pilot episode. Shine America’s Carolyn G. Bernstein and Filmlance’s Lars Blomgren are also executive producing the show.

"For years networks having been trying develop a drama series set on the U.S.-Mexican border without any success,” said FX president John Landgraf. ”I’m thrilled to say that Meredith Stiehm and Elwood Reid have become the first to crack that creative code and they have done so magnificently.”
