‘Game of Thrones’ Episode Leaks Online, Not Connected to HBO Hack

Unaired episode of HBO fantasy drama appeared online Friday

An unaired episode of “Game of Thrones” has made its way online on Friday, but is unconnected to the recent HBO hack, TheWrap has learned.

The upcoming fourth episode of Season 7, titled “The Spoils of War,” appeared on a Reddit thread on Friday morning, featuring a “for internal viewing only” watermark with the logo for distribution partner Star India.

The release of the episode ahead of its Sunday airing comes just a few days after the recent hack of HBO, in which intruders reportedly made off with 1.5 terabytes of data, including a script from “Game of Thrones” and episodes of series such as “Ballers” and “Room 104.” That hack is not the source of this episode’s leak.

The hackers have threatened to gradually release more of the “sensitive data” they obtained from the network, beginning this Sunday at 12 GMT. However, HBO boss Richard Plepler sent a memo to staff on Wednesday to assure them that the network does “not believe that our e-mail system as a whole has been compromised.”

When previously reached for comment about the hack, the network told TheWrap, “Due to an ongoing investigation, we cannot speak to any specifics.”
